| The Madeline Island
Historical Museum, located just up the dock from the ferry landing in
historic downtown LaPointe, takes visitors on a trip through time (715-747-2415),

| History unfolds at the Museum in displays describing Native
American life, the fur trade and arrival of missionaries, 19th century fishing, logging,
brownstone mining and local maritime lore. A lively musical slide show introduces the
visitor to the "Story that is Madeline Island". The gift shop offers
books, crafts, jewelry and gift items rooted in the island's history |

Located 7 miles from the ferry landing. Over 5 miles of hiking trails along the
shores of Lake Superior. Picnic areas, swimming beach and a 60 site family

Big Bay Town Park
Owned and operated by the town of La Pointe. There are 40 rustic camp sites, four
electric sites. There is fishing, canoeing and sand beaches. The walking
bridge spans the beautiful lagoon. Located just 6 1/2 miles from the Ferry landing.
No reservations accepted.

Capser & Meech Hiking Trails
Madeline Island Wilderness Preserve and the Town of LaPointe sponsor both hiking trails (a
12 minute walk from the ferry landing). Scheduled nature walks (contact the Madeline
Island Chamber). No bicycles please. |

Lake View Schoolhouse
Located 1 1/2 blocks from the ferry landing, Lake View Schoolhouse takes you back to the
days of the one-room schoolhouse. Restored by the Madeline Island Historical
Preservation Association. Hours vary.

paved with few hills. Easy bike ride out to either the State or Town Big Bay Parks. |
